Phil has been actively involved in a range of industries over the years including business services, communications, education, distribution, apparel, sport and social services sectors. At senior management level Phil has been chief executive at WelCAB (where he managed six CAB and two budget service branches) and deputy managing director at the New Zealand Institute of Sport (where he taught marketing and promotion, event management, sponsorship, administration and financial systems).
Phil has been active as a business advisor with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s biz Information service, Business Mentors New Zealand and the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce, during which time he provided assistance to over 4,500 small and medium sized businesses. Phil was also responsible for delivering the Wellington pilot of the Connect New Zealand program which connected high-growth companies with the people and resources needed to springboard into international markets and he has been actively involved in the New Zealand Institute of Management’s Small Business Entrepreneurs Program.
Phil is manager of the NRG Trust / Elevate, former secretary of the Wellington Innovation Network, a founder of the Cable Car Challenge Business Plan Competition, a founder of the Global Entrepreneurship Week New Zealand program and Incubators New Zealand. Phil is a licensed business broker and can advise on grooming strategies and exit planning for businesses. He is currently involved in a Small Business Development role at Whitireia New Zealand where he is designing business programs, undertaking business development projects and teaching business-related subjects.
